WELCOME TO MY WORLD 2011-2012

Forty young people from Aranmore's Intensive English Centre made a giant foosball table that was exhibited at the Free From Fear Art Exhibition during National Refugee Week as part of YMCA Open Arts. To create the foosball table the young people attended an all-day drama workshop with theatre artist Anne Sorrenson and ten weekly workshops with visual artist Poppy van Oorde-Grainger.

Propel Youth Arts WA hosted the Free From Fear Art Exhibition as part of Refugee Week 2011 Australian-wide celebrations. The exhibition was held at the Central Park Foyer in June. Sponsored by the Department for Communities’ Office for Youth and supported by Save the Children, Central Park, Healthway to promote the Drug Aware message and YMCA, the exhibition explored freedom and children’s rights as defined by young people with refugee backgrounds.

The Let's Come Together And Make Freedom foosball table also went on to be exhibited at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Forum and featured in a music video created by the young people in a 2012 project funded by the Department of Culture and the Arts.
